If you’ve set a date for your wedding you’ll no doubt already be planning some of the very special things that will make this one of the most memorable days of your life.
Whatever the size, style or location of your wedding, as well as the long 'to do' list of organisational things, looking and feeling your best will definitely be somewhere near the top of your 'must-dos' for your special day.
Many brides-to-be will often spend a huge amount of time selecting the perfect dress, arranging hair and makeup sessions before the big day and embarking on special diet and exercise plans to ensure they feel uber confident when they're centre stage!
One thing that is often left to the last minute though is managing your skin. Even if you normally have ‘easy going’ skin, the typical wedding stresses such as changes of diet and sleep patterns and rushing around can often put a stop to healthy, happy wedding-ready skin.
So, whatever the number of weeks or days you have before your big day here’s our simple six step guide to having picture perfect skin on your wedding day.
1. Embark on a simple regime
It’s never too late to bring together two or three targeted products to help to get your skin active and working for you.
CLEANSERS - Even if time is short never miss cleansing your skin morning and evening to ensure that you are wiping away grime, cleaning off make-up and giving your skin a little bit of TLC. Skin can get sluggish and needs revitalising. If not, you can often end up with dull, congested skin that is more prone to breakouts.
If you’re short on time in the morning, cleanse in the shower and leave a few minutes extra each evening to really work your cleanser into the skin. Experiment with a few massage moves to stimulate oxygen and cell renewal. We’d also recommend a double cleanse if you can spare the time.
EYE CREAMS – The ‘windows of your soul’ will probably be tired and in need of a pick me up so make sure you invest in a good eye cream that has multi-tasking benefits. Look for one that will hydrate your delicate eye area without puffiness, contains light reflecting particles to cover any dark circles and will help to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Apply day and night.
MAGIC MASK – Introduce a mask to your regime to be used once or twice a week. Select one that is targeted to address your specific skin concerns. Not only will applying a mask help to get your skin in tip top condition, taking a few minutes out to pamper yourself is the best way to relieve stress, and restore harmony and balance to your skin (not to mention your sanity!)
2. Exfoliate your way to fresh new skin
It’s essential to lift away dead skin cells regularly, whatever your skin type, to ensure that the skin works effectively and that fresh new skin cells are revealed. There are many different types of exfoliator on the market. If you need advice have a read of our recent blog to help you.
Don’t forget too – your skin doesn’t just stop at your neck! Choose a gentle cleanser and regularly exfoliate your body in the weeks before your big day and consider a hair mask and scalp treatment to add lustre to your locks.
3. Calm, balance and hydrate from top to toe
If you’ve changed your diet, you're exercising differently or you're feeling under more stress than usual, the chances are your skin is going to reflect this. Select a moisturiser that is not too rich and that has ample moisturising ingredients. Look for products containing hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, ingredients rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin rich formulations to help you to get the skin nutrients you need. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water too. Especially if you are having a celebratory get together with friends before your big day!
4. Make time to ‘prime’
Using a primer or mattifying skincare base will help to make the canvas of your skin perfect for make-up application ensuring it will look flawless and help the products to stay on all day without the need to constantly touch up. If you are having a summer or beach wedding and expecting to spend a lot of time outdoors also ensure you apply a good SPF to protect yourself from sun damage and burning.
5. Smile down the aisle
You’ll no doubt be doing a lot of kissing of your loved ones on your big day...as well as smiling for the cameras! Make sure you give your lips some TLC in the build up to the day. Gently exfoliate away dead skin and apply lip balm that is rich in natural hydration. Use it as a top coat to your lipstick to seal in the goodness too.
6. Some TLC for hard-working hands
No doubt your hands and your sparking new wedding bands will be photographed almost as much as your face on the big day! So ensure that dry, cracked skin is a thing of the past by treating yourself to an overnight intensive treatment. Apply our NectaPerfecta Beautifying Mask to hands, pop on a pair of cotton gloves and wake up to baby soft skin! Ensure you regularly moisturise hands in the run up to your big day to provide the perfect pairing with beautifully manicured nails.
We hope these top tips come in useful. All that’s left is to wish you a wonderful picture perfect wedding day and a lifetime of happiness!
