We may be enjoying this unseasonally mild weather but with the inevitable turning back of the clocks and a proliferation of conkers and chestnuts underfoot, autumn has most definitely arrived.
Above the collar our skin has already noticed a change in weather conditions so it’s a good idea to make a few tweaks to your skincare regime to protect and prepare the skin for the seasonal change.
Our three wonder bee ingredients – honey, propolis and beeswax work hard for the skin at this time of year just as our British bees begin to hunker down for the winter. Remember switching on the central heating and washing and showering in slightly hotter water will both have an affect on the skin’s ability to retain water, naturally drying the skin out. Honey - which attracts and retains water in the skin, Beeswax - which reduces water loss and acts as a shield against the elements and Propolis – so good at stopping bacteria and enhancing skin renewal, collectively provide our skins with vital vitamins A,B,C and E.
This is an important part of your daily skincare regime all year round since sloughing away dead skin cells and allowing fresh new skin to emerge ensures the reduction in skin dullness and allows the skin to breathe. At this time of year it too can work harder for us.
Seasonal cleansing tip: Using the Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser and pure muslin cloth apply cleanser all over your face for a first quick cleanse to remove all make up and grime and to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. Then apply a second generous layer to your skin, avoiding the delicate eye area and leave the cleanser for 5-10 minutes as you would a treatment mask before removing. This will add an additional softness and boost of moisture to the skin.
Simply don’t leave home without applying your moisturiser or go to bed without applying it either.
The British Camelina oil (or Wild Flax as it is better known) in our Honey & Wild Flax Daily Moisturiser is a rich source of essential fatty acids including linoleic acid (rich in Omega 6) and alpha-linolenic acid (rich in Omega 3) which both help to reduce moisture-loss and protect and nourish the skin. It is carefully formulated so as not to overload the skin and keep it silky smooth and rejuvenated.
Inside and out our bodies are looking for improved immunity to colds and germs at this time of year as sluggishness so easily sets in. The mindset of hibernation is rife! As well as supporting the body by adding fantastic anti-oxidants like ginger and spices to your diet, and making sure you grab the last rays of sunshine for essential Vitamin D, you also need to keep drinking water. Just because it’s getting colder doesn’t mean you can cut down on your water intake. Half our blood is made up of plasma, which is mostly water. Even if you’re slightly dehydrated your blood gets thicker and your heart has to work harder to circulate it.
Taking on board water and retaining it in your skin will undoubtedly improve your overall wellbeing and ensure you really will keep a spring in your step through autumn.
