Bee Ingredients For Anti-ageing Skincare

honey and bee good anti-aging skincare products

Our skin is in constant battle with many forces:  Sun, harsh weather, pollution and bad habits. How your skin ages will depend upon how your skin deals with these factors, and how you can help protect it from its harsh lifestyle.

Ensuring a good regular skincare regime is important to help keep the skin healthy. Without the use of moisturiser the skin barrier is compromised which leads to the skin becoming dry and when this happens there is low-level inflammation in the skin. Over a prolonged period, this inflammation leads to the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Collagen and elastin serve as a support system for the skin that helps keep it smooth, supple and strong. However when the skin fibres break this will cause skin to lose strength and elasticity and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, and therefore accelerated ageing

Ageing is a natural process that everyone will go through but there are a number of preventative and delay methods that can postpone this natural occurring process of wrinkle formation. A regular routine of moisturising can prevent the small lines becoming more pronounced. There are numerous over the counter products to prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, if you just glance at the back of some of these products the list of chemicals is as long as your arm. Why expose your body to even more chemicals when all the ingredients you need to get your skin back to its supple youthful glow can be found in nature (or in our case in a bee hive).

Bee Good HoneyIf it’s good enough for Cleopatra it’s good enough for us! Many beauties of the past have been reported to use honey regularly in their skincare routine to maintain their fantastic complexion.

Honey has been shown to contain over 600 different components, including carbohydrates, vitamins and amino acids as well as a multitude of antioxidants. Honey has unique anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties.

Dehydration of the skin (due to harsh weather or a reduction in your daily recommended intake of water) can cause fine lines and wrinkles to form on your face. The first sign of dehydration of the skin is wrinkles around your eyes. Honey is a humectant, which means it helps absorb and retain moisture ( Fantastic I know). This enables honey to restore the moisture level in the skin without making it oily and serves as a natural moisturising agent for dry skin.

It is very gentle and non-irritant so is suitable for the most sensitive skin types. Therefore rebalancing the moisture levels in your face and removing these lines that are due to dehydration makes skin appear smooth and youthful, as well as targeting the deeper lines formed over time.

Honey is a natural antioxidant which proves to benefit both when taken internally but also when applied topically on the skin. Honey fights against oxidative damage to the skin from free radicals in the air due to pollution that can cause the formation of wrinkles and premature ageing.

Beeswax is produced by the wax glands in the abdominal segment of the worker bee. It consists of mainly esters of fatty acids and various long- chain alcohols. Beeswax is often used in cosmetics as a binding agent but that isn’t its only use for skincare.

Beeswax produces a protective barrier when it is applied to the skin which guards against environmental assaults (wind, pollution), whilst holding in moisture reducing dryness. Beeswax lets the skin breathe unlike other moisturisers that contain petroleum which can trap toxins in the skin causing outbreaks.

Beeswax is a good source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps neutralize the damage that are caused by free radicals. The oxidation caused by these free radicals is a huge factor in the ageing of skin. Vitamin A not only protects with its antioxidant effect it is actually shown to reduce the signs of sun damage and skin ageing by working as an exfoliator and reducing those pesky wrinkles and fine line.

propolis and honeycombThe bee’s magic wrinkle reduction product, propolis! A resinous substance collected from plants, buds and exudates is made up of over 300 components. Propolis works on a number of levels to help reduce wrinkle formation and to help the skin remain healthy and youthful.

Propolis is filled with minerals such as magnesium, calcium and zinc, as well as others. Minerals like these are essential to rebuilding damaged skin cells. It is this replenishment of new skin that results in fresh-looking soft skin, and a reduction in both fine and deeper wrinkles.

Propolis is filled with Flavonoids ( antioxidants) such as Quercetin, Pinocembrin, and Galangin. It is compounds like these found in propolis that fight against the damaging effects of oxidants we face every day, caused by pollution and UV rays from the sun. This damages the skin and so in turn cause premature ageing. Protecting against these means youthful-looking skin for longer.

Propolis was found to boost the performance of an antioxidant called superoxide dismutase found in the body. This antioxidant catalyses the breakdown of superoxide radicals that are toxic to living cells in the body. Reducing the damage to skin cells from these free radicals means preventing wrinkles, fine lines and age spots as well as helping with any damage already caused so real reductions in the signs of ageing.

So now you have been wowed by the multitude of buzzy goodness that bees produce how exactly can you get all the benefits from these products and use them directly to make yourself look extraordinary?

Rather than raiding a bee hive and smothering yourself in rather sticky honey (trust me it isn’t the nicest feeling), Bee Good have harnessed all this natural bee goodness and used it to make some super age-defying skincare products. The “youth enhancing range” has been specially formulated with these ingredients as well as other botanical goodies that fight the signs of ageing from the first wrinkle to the slightly more mature skin.
